The London Knights are heading to Red Deer after blanking Niagara 1-0 to win the OHL Championship Series.
Christian Dvorak scored London’s only goal as the Knights out shot the IceDogs 29-18.
Mitchell Marner was named playoff MVP after finishing with 16 goals and 28 assists in 18 games.
The Knights set an OHL record with 13 straight playoff wins, after sweeping Kitchener, Erie and Niagara en route to the championship.
They are just the second team to go 16-2 in the postseason since the format changed in 1999, joining the 2015 London Knights, which many consider one of the top teams in OHL history.
Their only two losses came in the first round at the hands of Owen Sound.
The Championship is London's third in the last five years, and fourth in franchise history.
Upon receiving the J. Ross Robertson Cup, Knights captain Mitch Marner passed the trophy to Jacob Buch, London’s fifth round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection who committed to the club in June of 2014. Buch was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma shortly thereafter, a rare form of bone cancer that affects mainly children and adolescents.
The Knights are the first champion from across the Canadian Hockey League to advance to the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup and will open competition against the host Red Deer Rebels next Friday May 20.
