Several local athletes are competing for Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) championships. Bright's Grove native Laura Dally looks to continue her strong season with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies as they compete in Fredericton, New Brunswick. She was named the Canada West Universities Athletic Association women's basketball outstanding player of the year, leading the Huskies to an 18-2 regular-season record. They beat the University of Ottawa 73-62 Thursday to advance to Saturday's semi finals. Dally finished with 10 points and six rebounds in the win. On the ice, Sarnia native Marlowe Pecora and Petrolia native Kendra Broad are with the Western Mustangs at the CIS Women's Hockey Championship in Calgary. Both were with the Mustangs last year when they won the 2015 National Championship. Western takes on Saint Marys in quarter final action Friday afternoon, with the winner advancing to Saturday's semi final. A pair of Strathroy natives are competing for the CIS University Cup on the men's side. Tyler Carrol is skating with the University of New Brunswick, Sean Callaghan is in his first season with the Western Mustangs. Some former Sarnia Sting are also competing, Nathan Chiarlitti, Craig Duininck, Brandon Hope and Zack MacQueen are with StFX. Mike DiPaolo is with Western.
