The camp opened Wednesday in Calgary, with exhibition games scheduled to begin Saturday night.
The Sting selected forward McGregor 24th overall and Hughes, a goalie from London, 34th overall in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.
Of the 100 players invited to camp, 45 are from the Ontario Hockey League.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
