Dedication of St. Clair Township’s first cenotaph postponed until after Remembrance Day

A dedication ceremony for the first cenotaph in St. Clair Township, originally planned for Friday has been postponed.

According to its website, the Royal Canadian Legion Leslie Sutherland Branch 447 in Corunna said the new granite monument will not be ready in time for the dedication ceremony due to unforeseen circumstances.

The public notice also indicated the monument, which will include the names of 24 soldiers who gave their lives for their country, will not be ready for Remembrance Day services.

"We recognize the significance of these occasions and appreciate the community’s understanding as we navigate this unexpected delay," read the notice.

The monument will also include ten interactive story boards recognizing the service of peacekeepers, Indigenous veterans, RCMP members, and women, particularly in the medical field.

Meanwhile, the Legion said the Remembrance Day service will he held on November 11 at the Clock Tower in Corunna.

"We sincerely thank our veterans, members, supporters, and the community for their continued patience and support," the notice said.

A new date for a dedication ceremony has not been released.
