Harmony for Youth is kicking off its annual haunted house this weekend.
The all-ages event will run every weekend throughout the month of October.
"Our haunted house is one of our best and most fun fundraisers that we do in a year," said Harmony for Youth Board President Paul Carney. "We go into a place we could look around to see what we can find, hopefully for free. But we've been so honoured that Unifor 914 is giving us the space this year. It's absolutely fantastic for us. We go in, we build basically a maze, a walk-through path, and then fill it full of just all sorts of frights."
This year's spooky maze is held in the Unifor building on the corner of Indian Road and Devine Street.
"We want it to be fun for the people who come through, and very often at the other end, people are quite amazed at how much fun they truly have had," he said. "We make sure that it's safe, but we also make sure that you get the thrill."
No animatronics are used in the haunted house, only props and scare actors. Harmony for Youth encourages anyone looking for a fun time or for volunteer hours to sign up to help out.
"It's our own Harmony Youth. It's their friends from high school. It's people who need high school volunteer hours, and we act. I actually run a scare school to try and teach them how to scare safely. We do not touch. We do not swear," said Carney. "Your safety is paramount to us."
Entrance into the haunted house is $15 per person or $60 for a family.
