Rural child care hiring event in Petrolia

Looking to step into early childhood education? The County of Lambton and local providers are inviting job seekers to meet directly with hiring managers on Thursday, September 10 in Petrolia.

Lambton Works Employment Services Supervisor Susan Blommers said they're hosting an event with Lambton Rural Child Care and County of Lambton Children's Services.

"Lambton Rural Child Care is actively hiring for a couple of centres, so we've partnered with them to create an opportunity for job seekers to connect directly with the employer," said Blommers.

"The event is taking place at the Lambton Rural Child Care office in Petrolia [4184 Petrolia Line] on Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon, and people are encouraged to come on out, bring their resume, meet with the employer, learn more about the different positions that are available, and then successful applicants may have the opportunity to interview that same day, or be scheduled for a later date," she added.

Blommers said they're looking to fill Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), early childhood assistant, cook and supervisor positions.

"That's across a couple of different sites, largely for Corunna and for Petrolia, but then there's also just a few other locations that are looking to maybe fill a couple different positions as well," she said.

Blommers said the roles may also provide an opportunity to train before new facilities open.

"We're really encouraging if anyone is interested in a career in child care, even if you're not sure that working out in the county is going to fit with your lifestyle, or your location, or your transportation situation... come out and chat with the employer. See what opportunities are available. See how it might work for you," she said.

Blommers recommends being prepared, so you can enter conversations with confidence.

She said Lambton Works Centre offers resume support, can help you prepare for an interview or provide assistance by talking through expectations.
