There's now a race for the mayors seat in the Village of Point Edward.
Current councillor Paul Burgess filed his nomination papers on Monday, August 17.
"The village has been home to my family for over a century," Burgess said in an announcement to local media. "It has fostered fond memories of what it truly means to be a part of a community and something bigger than oneself. From my late father Bill serving on the fire department for 25 years, my son currently serving on the fire department for the past five years, marrying my wife Erica 24 years ago at St. Paul's Church, attending Bridgeview school as my father and children did; the village is truly a special place that I hold dear to my heart."
Burgess was first elected to council in 2014.
He's running against Deputy Mayor Greg Grimes who filed his nomination papers back in May.
Current mayor Bev Hand has not yet indicated if she is seeking another term in the fall.
The deadline to file nomination papers for the October 26 election is 2 p.m. on Friday, August 21.
