OPP arrest impaired driver for entering collision scene

A man is facing impaired driving charges after the OPP say he drove around road closure barricades and into an active collision scene.

At around 5 p.m. on July 30, officers were investigating a rollover crash on Lakeshore Road in Lambton Shores in which the driver suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the accused drove into the crash zone, near Cedar Point Line, and was stopped.

A 65-year-old man from Hensall was charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with operation while impaired and driving on a closed highway.

The man's licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for a week. He was released and will appear in court in Sarnia on August 26.

Police are reminding drivers that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when behind the wheel.

Anyone who sees something suspicious or suspects an impaired driver, should contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
