Warwick Township Council has directed staff to craft a bylaw to address speeding concerns on a busy stretch of Watford's Centennial Avenue.
Councillor Joe Manning made a motion at a recent meeting.
He said the township should take a page from other municipalities and implement a "Community Safety Awareness Zone."
It would reduce the speed limit and double the cost of speeding fines.
"Other communities have markers in the centre of the road with the speeds on them and markers on the side. So it kind of made the drivers have to think while driving through them," said Manning. "I'd like to see if this is a possibility we could do in front of the East Lambton Community Complex (ELCC), maybe stretching it right up to the school zone there. We have parks there, we have the ELCC, we have a school zone. I think it can be a fantastic way for us to control the speed in there all through the year."
Meanwhile, council also voted to install a permanent three-way stop at the King Street and Warwick Street intersection.
Staff will also be investigating the requirements to install a temporary stop sign at the corner of Gold Street and Centennial Avenue for the remainder of the Nauvoo Road and Confederation Line intersection construction project.
The township also recently introduced new heavy truck restrictions near the construction zone.
Warwick Township Council's next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11 at 1 p.m.
It will be held in council chambers at 5280 Nauvoo Road.
