Wildfire smoke triggers air quality advisory in Sarnia-Lambton

Along with the continued heat warning, Environment Canada has now issued an orange air quality warning for Sarnia-Lambton.

The national weather agency said smoke from forest fires in northwestern Ontario will cause poor air quality across much of southern Ontario Wednesday, which may persist into Friday.

Environment Canada said we should consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

It said during heavy smoke conditions, everyone’s health is at risk regardless of their age or health status.

Some people may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough.

More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing and chest pains.

We're reminded to keep windows and doors closed as much as possible when indoors.

Individuals more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke, include those aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors.

Seek medical attention if you're experiencing symptoms.
