Ready to run? Municipal candidate info session on this week

There's just over a month left to file your nomination papers for the upcoming municipal election.

If you're considering putting your name on the ballot, a candidate information session is being held on Wednesday, July 15 in Petrolia.

It's being organized and hosted by The Jean Collective and Health Democracy-People's Table at the BNS Meeting Space at 4184 Petrolia Line.

The session is designed to help community members better understand what it means to serve on municipal council or school board and encourage greater civic participation.

The evening will introduce participants to The Jean Collective's new Candidate Toolkit. It's described as a practical resource developed to support individuals who are considering public office or simply want to learn more about the process.

Topics include the role of municipal councils and school boards, the nomination process and timelines, common myths and misconceptions and available resources.

"You do not have to be ready to run for office to attend," says The Jean Collective Founder Helen Cole in a news release. "This session is for anyone who is curious about local government, wants to become more engaged in their community, or is wondering if public service might be part of their future."

The free event is open to everyone and will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Registration is encouraged as seating is limited.
