Registration open for 39th Huron House Boys' Home Run/Walk/Bike

The annual Huron House Boys' Home Run/Walk/Bike will be held this weekend.

Runners, walkers, and bikers can register for the annual event online or in person on Friday evening or Saturday morning at Lambton Mall.

"The Run Walk Bike is happening this weekend, Sunday, June 21, on Father's Day. This year is our 39th year. We've been doing it since 1987, so we have a 5k and a 10k chip time race. We have a 5k walk, and we have a 7k bike ride scheduled for that day," said Huron House Executive Assistant and Head of Fund Development Denise McMillan. "We do have a soft deadline, because we go to the mall on Friday night and Saturday morning to hand out the kits, so we kind of base it on where the numbers are at that point in time to turn off the online registration, but then you can come out to the mall and register in person."

Online registration is also available through the Huron House website or on the day of the race beginning at 7 a.m.

McMillan noted that each year they hope for more participants than the last and are striving for 440 runners, walkers, and bikers, this year.

If you just want to come and watch, you're more than welcome to come and spend the day and get a pancake breakfast for a small fee.

"The first racers go out at 8 a.m., and they go out at five or 10-minute increments after that. While the participants are out on the course, we also have a kids zone that has a blow-up obstacle course, we have face painting, we have jelly ball this year, which is new this year, and then anybody there supporting their participants can have the pancake breakfast which begins at 8:30 a.m. for any spectators, and then participants usually come in after," she said.

Registration for runners in the 5K and 10K is $60, and the 5K walk and 7K bike is $30, which includes your event, a t-shirt, and breakfast.

All proceeds go towards Huron House.

"This is our biggest fundraiser, and it always comes at the perfect time of June, right? It launches right into the summer activities, so every dollar that's raised through this event directly goes back into the youth summer activities, creating those opportunities and those supports for those kids that we always say don't always get the experience that normal teenagers get," said Executive Director Mike McGill.

The event takes place on Sunday, June 21, at Mike Weir Park in Bright's Grove.

Races start at 8 a.m.
