The Multicultural Awareness Club at Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School is hosting its annual MAC Night on Thursday.
Speaking with Hilary Welch on 99.9 The Fox, President Harminder Deol said the event features food and entertainment and is open to the entire community.
"Our school cafeteria transforms into an international marketplace where attendees can purchase authentic homemade dishes from around the world," Deol said. "Many of these items are from multi-generational family recipes passed down to students and parents. So, they bring a taste of home. The best part is, many of these food items... they're not available at local restaurants."
Once guests are done feasting, Deol said they'll be invited into the gymnasium.
"We have a high energy stage featuring traditional dances, there's music, songs, bagpipes played by one of our school teachers," she said. "We have a school band play some Turkish tunes for us. We have Indian dancers, we have Chinese line dancers."
Deol said the evening will end with a fashion show, showcasing a wide range of heritages.
Food will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the entertainment goes from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
"Entry is free! You need to bring a good appetite where you can try different foods," Deol said. "You need to bring some change so that you can buy food items. Bring your family, bring your friends, bring your neighbours... spread the word and join us."
Deol said the club meets weekly, providing a space for students of different backgrounds, traditions and cultures to share their heritage.
