Library hosting Valentine's Day card making initiative again

Lambton County Library is inviting the community to participate in its Valentine's Day card making initiative for another year.

Adult Programs and Outreach, Public Services Coordinator Adrianne Lebert said 670 valentine cards were delivered in 2025 to residents living in the County of Lambton’s three municipally operated long-term care homes and participants in adult day programs.

"Valentine’s for Long-Term Care creates moments of connection and brings joy to those who receive the cards," said Lebert. "We encourage participants to create fun and colourful cards with positive messages that can resonate with anyone."

The initiative started in 2019 as a partnership with the library, Lambton Public Health and an initiative that Lambton Public Health had put together called Community That Cares.

The program was so well received, the library decided to keep it going after the grant ended.

"I can't believe it's our seventh year participating," Lebert said. "It's really one of our favourite times of the year getting to see all of those valentines coming in. The artwork and talent that goes into them, seeing all ages from toddlers to adults also participating in the creation of the valentines and the sweet messages that they want to pass along to folks is just so heartwarming."

Lebert said some library branches are offering card-making programs.

"There's going to be 36 different library programs where people from all different ages can come to the library and make valentines. Not only for folks living in long term care, but we welcome you to come to the program and also create valentines for friends and family too," she said.

You can view the schedule and register online.

Community members, classrooms, and local organizations are also encouraged to create handmade Valentine’s Day cards and drop them off at any Lambton County Library location during regular operating hours.

Lebert asks that all cards be submitted by Saturday, January 31, so they can be delivered in time for Valentine’s Day.
