Second quarter OLG payments doled out

The City of Sarnia is cashing in on its latest gaming revenue payment, roughly one month after the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) announced plans to close the slots at Hiawatha Horse Park.

The OLG's second quarter payment for hosting Gateway Casinos Sarnia totaled $95,506.

The second quarter spans from July 1 to September 30.

So far during this fiscal year, which started on April 1, the city has received $199,203.

Since Gateway Casinos opened in 1999, Sarnia has received over $28 million.

Despite the expected closure of the casino next year, the OLG said it would provide one additional year of funding to assist with the transition.

Meanwhile, the Village of Point Edward received a second quarter payment of $423,428 for hosting Starlight Casino.

Point Edward has received $848,234 in gaming revenue so far this fiscal year, and over $54 million in total since the gaming site opened in April 2000.

The OLG said payments are based on a formula in the Municipality Contribution Agreement, using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.
