Woman charged with assault in unprovoked incident

Customers at a convenience store near Sarnia's south end intervened after a woman allegedly punched a man in the face over the weekend.

The unprovoked incident was reported on Sunday, September 28, shortly after 11 p.m. at a Confederation Street store, near Queen Street.

It's alleged a 33-year-old woman was in the store trying to take people's belongings.

Police said after the assault, customers restrained her until officers arrived. At which point, police found a man holding the suspect by her wrists.

No injuries were reported.

"Police investigation revealed that the customers acted reasonably and lawfully," read a media release from the Sarnia Police Service (SPS).

The woman was arrested but police said she resisted during the process.

Kelsey Saar was charged with assault, obstructing a police officer, and two counts of breach of probation.

The SPS said Saar had been released from bail court just hours before the convenience store incident occurred. It was also noted that Saar has had 30 interactions with police since November 2024.
