The Town of Petrolia is helping more families access programs and services at the YMCA.
A $5,000 donation has been provided to the Petrolia YMCA for its Strong Communities Start Here program.
Every year, Petrolia council donates money to local organizations.
Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities Julie Bullock said it will go towards helping families access the Tank Street facility.
"Families that can't afford it (the YMCA) will get financial assistance or it may help to run different programs for either seniors or youth at the YMCA in Petrolia," she said.
The funding will also go towards YMCA facility improvements and assistance for daytime and overnight camp experiences.
Bullock said this will allow more people to access recreation in the town.
"Sometimes it's hard for families to afford that, so this makes a big difference for families or individuals who want to come out and use the facility and enjoy the different aspects over there," she said.
Last year, the YMCA provided $40,000 in financial assistance.
Bullock said the facility is finding more people are using the program.
"Nowadays, everything continues to get more expensive, so they do have more families that are coming in and having that conversation and looking to see how the YMCA can help them to still access the programs and services there," she said.
The Petrolia YMCA has two pools, a gymnasium, program rooms, and a fitness facility.
