Woman charged in store theft

An alleged shoplifter was caught red handed by store staff.

On Wednesday, August 13, Sarnia police were called to an Exmouth Street business near East Street just after 1 p.m.

Police were told a woman had stolen several items, and when confronted by staff, allegedly became verbally confrontational and raised her fist toward them.

When officers arrived, the dispute had moved outside the store and the woman was arrested.

During a search officers located several stolen items such as clothing and rings.

A 29-year-old woman of no fixed address is charged with theft under $5,000, breach of probation and disobeying a court order, and was remanded into custody following her bail hearing.

Sarnia police said since August of 2024, the suspect has been arrested 17 times, and this is their seventh theft-related charge.
