Sarnia's arena team is busy installing ice at Progressive Auto Sales Arena (PASA), a week after the facility was flooded in heavy rain.
While it's good news, PASA remains closed as work is done to repair the damage.
Communications Manager Steve Henschel said they initially expected the arena to be closed until at least the start of the fall ice season; however, they're looking at ways to potentially expedite reopening.
"Water did get into the entirety of the lower level of the facility, impacting everything from drywall to flooring and things like that," said Henschel. "We're working with our insurance provider in terms of next steps. We're keeping in regular communication with the Sarnia Sting so they're apprised of everything that's going on."
Henschel said a damage estimate is unknown as the city continues to work with its insurance provider.
He said any future updates will be shared via social media and the public notices section of the city's website.
On July 16, over 70 millimetres of rain fell in about an hour as thunderstorms moved across the region.
The flood-related closure of PASA happened at the same time Pat Stapleton Arena is closed for the summer and Clearwater Arena is undergoing facility upgrades.
