The US Coast Guard was able to save a person from an overturned boat near Port Huron Saturday evening.
The Air Station Detroit and Sector Detroit received a call about a flipped vessel at around 5:25 p.m. They were told that someone may have been trapped aboard when it overturned on Lake Huron.
A helicopter crew started a search and found a person waving their arms in the water. They, along with a rescue swimmer, were hoisted by the crew and brought back to land.
“This was a team effort, and I’d like to commend the coordination from Sector Detroit and our crews. This is what we train for, and we are glad we got to bring the survivor home safely,” said Lt. Christian Toscano, aircraft commander, Air Station Detroit.
Fortunately, the person found in the water was the same person who was reportedly trapped on the boat.
The survivor is currently medically stable.
