Sarnia man charged in near-miss crash involving police cruiser

Sarnia police are reminding motorist the dangers of drinking and driving following an incident over the weekend.

An officer was driving north on Christina Street near George Street at around 8:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 5.

While driving through the curve it's a southbound truck drifted into the northbound lane, causing the officer to swerve to avoid a collision.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and it's alleged the driver of the pick-up was showing signs of impairment.

Police said two breath samples taken found he was nearly three times over the legal limit.

"Operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs significantly reduces a driver's reaction time, coordination, and judgement," A news release said. " endangering not only the driver but passengers, other motorists and pedestrians."

Police remind residents those who suspects impaired driving is encouraged to contact 911.
