Temporary repairs on damaged 402 completed

After days of detours, a section of the Highway 402 in Plympton-Wyoming reopened to traffic Wednesday morning.

The westbound highway between Oil Heritage Road and Mandaumin Road was closed since Sunday evening after reports of unsafe road conditions to Lambton OPP.

In an email to Sarnia News Today, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) confirmed a pavement joint on the highway was in need of repairs because of the extreme heat.

A heat warning was issued by Environment Canada for Sarnia-Lambton on Friday, June 20 warning of dangerously hot and humid conditions.

On Sunday, Sarnia set a new record high for June 22, as the temperature climbed to 34.5 C, surpassing the previous record of 33.9 C set in 1988.

The heat warning ended overnight Tuesday with the arrival of cooler less humid air.

Temporary repairs to the highway wrapped up by 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and the MTO said a permanent fix will be completed in the fall.

Lambton OPP are thanking public for their patience and cooperation throughout the closure.
