Thousands of people are expected to attend the sixth annual Alvinston Pro Rodeo this weekend, where spectators will be able to watch professional cowboys and cowgirls perform.
The multi-day event will be held at the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood Community Centre Complex on June 13-15.
Over 200 cowboys and cowgirls from the International Professional Rodeo Association, representing countries such as Canada, the U.S., Brazil, and Australia, will compete to be crowned champion.
"It's a great event. It doesn't come to our neck of the woods too often, where you get professional rodeo competitors coming from all over the world. So it's a pretty neat thing to see," said Chairman Dan Cumming.
He also said guests can expect to see everything from saddle bronc to bull riding, steer wrestling, and barrel racing.
"We've got chuck wagon races happening this year as well," Cumming said. "The mini chuck wagons come up from the Peterborough [area] and they put on a great show for everybody as well. We also have barn dances after the performances on Friday and Saturday night."
The dances will be held for adults aged 19 and older. Friday's live entertainment will feature Colt McLaughlin and Neon Rain, and Scott Manery and The Barnburners will perform on Saturday.
The rodeo will also include concessions, vendors, and clowns.
Gates open at 5 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.
On Sunday, the Optimist Club of Alvinston & Districts will host a Father's Day breakfast from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. The breakfast is not included in the rodeo ticket fees. Gates open for the rodeo at 12 p.m.
Although tickets can be purchased at the rodeo, Cumming recommends buying them online.
"It's a smoother process if you buy them ahead of time," he said. "It's an easy scan-in rather than waiting in line to purchase on the day of."
