Council to consider plans for new industrial subdivision

A proposal to service vacant land for a new industrial subdivision is welcomed by Sarnia's mayor.

City council will consider approving the plan to develop seven new industrial blocks on Gladwish Drive on Monday.

Mike Bradley said it would be a "major step forward" to upgrade the area.

"We have spent millions of dollars upgrading Plank Road, [which was] long overdue," said Bradley. "That is coming to completion and this fits into that development area. It is a heavy industrial area of the city and it needs the supporting infrastructure."

Bradley said the project would give businesses more industrial selection.

"The city has two parks, but they are zoned to certain needs and their are certain restrictions. This area tends to be more open because of the industrial sector that's there already, and it's the prime location -- being located at Plank Road at Highway 40 -- to get to the [Highway] 402, to get to the rest of Lambton County. So, it's got a lot to offer," he said.

The subdivision would be serviced by municipal water, storm, and sanitary services.

"We've done our part of the job, so it's good to see the private sector stepping up and saying, 'these are lots that we can develop for industrial commercial development," he said.

Council is also expected to award the tender for the Gladwish Drive extension between McGregor Sideroad and Plank Road.

In the 2025 budget, close to $3.6 million was approved to proceed with construction of the road extension, sanitary sewer and drainage components.
