With even more rain in the forecast, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) has upgraded its flood watch to a flood warning for the watershed.
The SCRCA said Wednesday's intense rain event brought 20 to 75 millimetres of rainfall across the region, with most areas reporting around 50 mm.
Upwards of 25 mm is predicted on Friday, and another five mm to 15 mm could fall on Saturday.
As water levels continue to climb, the SCRCA is reporting the widespread flooding of low-lying areas and some roads.
The soil is saturated and doesn't have much ability to absorb more rain, which is expected to result in increased runoff and water levels, and possible erosion and seepage issues.
Several roads were impacted by flooding, as of Thursday, including:
- Plowing Match Road between Petrolia Line and Rokeby Line
- Fairweather Road between Oil Springs Line and Aberfeldy Line
- Oakdale Road between Churchill Line and LaSalle Line
- Black Ash Road between Durham Creek and Aberfeldy Line
- Pretty Road between Stanley Line and McCallum Line
- Stanley Line between Waubuno Road and Kimball Road
We're being reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks, and cold, swift-moving water.
Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The storms that rumbled through Sarnia-Lambton Wednesday resulted in scattered power outages and road closures.
