The automated licence plate recognition (ALPR) system has proven to be helpful after Lambton OPP recently stopped a couple of alleged prohibited drivers this past week.
OPP on general patrol on Beckwith Street in Corunna were alerted about a possible suspended driver on January 28, shortly after 11:20 a.m.
The driver, a 66-year-old from Corunna, was charged with two counts of operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code.
One day prior, the ALPR system alerted officers about a possible suspended driver in Petrolia on January 27.
A vehicle was pulled over on First Avenue shortly after 3:45 p.m.
Police said a 48-year-old Petrolia man was charged with operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code.
In both cases, the vehicles were towed away and impounded for 45 days.
West Region OPP rolled out the ALPR and In-Car-Camera systems in 2023. The equipment allows officers to flag vehicles' front licence plates as they pass and quickly search a database to see if there are any issues.
