A local Canadian Paralympian is being recognized by Plympton-Wyoming Council.
During its recent meeting, town council presented Priscilla Gagne with a certificate in recognition of her contributions to the sport of judo.
She won a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo and placed fifth in the women-57 kilogram J1 at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.
Last year, Gagne was inducted into the Women's Wrestling Hall of Fame.
"Opportunities just don’t happen, you create them, and you did just that," said mayor Gary Atkinson during Wednesday's meeting. "You have achieved many significant milestones, as well as recognition at all levels. But the success has not come easy. You have faced many challenges including broken bones and hip surgery. Through it all, you continue to be an inspiration to so many with your perseverance and your dedication."
Gagne was born in Granby, Quebec and raised in Sarnia after moving to the city as a young child.
She was born with a genetic eye disorder and has four degrees of peripheral vision and no central vision, categorizing her as blind.
