Minor fire extinguished quicky in St. Clair Township

Volunteer firefighters in St. Clair Township helped extinguish a fire at a home on St. Clair Parkway quickly on Wednesday morning.

Chief Richard Boyes said they responded to a property near Oil Springs Line at around 9 a.m.

"It turns out that it was caused by smoking materials and caused very minor damage to the exterior of the home," said Boyes.

Boyes said the fire was reported by someone passing by.

"It was on the side of the house which was visible from the road," he said. "Basically just a small amount of water from an extinguisher put the fire out, so they're very, very lucky."

Boyes said the cause was deemed accidental.

"The homeowner was there. I think he was inside and not aware of it until further on, but he got most of it out himself," he said. "Fortunately it was a minor fire, but it was very windy there, so if it had got going it would have been greater. But, [thanks to] quick action by the homeowner, and quick action by the stations, damage is very minimal," he said.

No injuries were reported and crews cleared the scene just before 10 a.m.
