A town hall meeting will be held this week to go over the future of Norm Perry Memorial Park.
The City of Sarnia retained the services of Quantum Recreation to develop a master plan for the 9.2-acre athletic park, located at Exmouth Street and Christina Street.
Parks and Recreation Manager Krissy Glavin said the consultants will discuss what they've heard so far from stakeholder meetings and an online survey.
"So they'll do a little presentation on that. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers, and then as well, they're going to provide -- as I understand it, an exit survey where people can provide further feedback following the session," Glavin said. "They have told us what they consistently hear is how important Norm Perry Park is to our community and that many people are looking for a lot of updates to the site."
Glavin said the consultants have done a needs assessment at the park. As specified on the Speak Up Sarnia website, some of the current challenges include insufficient parking, a rundown fieldhouse facility, an under-utilized grass field, and a dated turf field.
The town hall meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 30 from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Kiwanis Room at Pat Stapleton Arena.
Those unable to attend the meeting in person can register to join virtually. A link for the online option can be found on the Speak Up Sarnia website.
Glavin said the consultants will hold additional stakeholder meetings and public engagement sessions in November and December.
It's hoped a draft plan will be presented to council in the new year.
Meanwhile, Glavin said a master plan for Canatara Park will be ready to go back to council for consideration within the next month or so.
