Local emergency responders were called to the St. Clair River Thursday evening for a swimmer in distress.
Sarnia Fire and Rescue along with Point Edward Fire and Rescue, the US Coast Guard, and the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office responded to the call at around 7:30 p.m.
Witnesses reported a person entered the river near the casino in Point Edward, and said it appeared as though the swimmer was attempting to cross the river.
Local fire officials said the search was called off due to darkness at around 8:45 p.m. and Lambton OPP took over the call.
No victim was found.
