Damage estimated at $500K in apartment fire

All tenants of a central Sarnia apartment building have been temporarily displaced following a weekend fire.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue responded to a blaze at a three-storey building at London Road and East Street at around 6:15 a.m.

While the fire damage was contained to the first floor unit, smoke travelled throughout the building.

Fire officials said the cause has been deemed accidental and damage is estimated at $500,000.

No injuries were reported, however a cat did die in the blaze.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue said the Sarnia-Lambton Canadian Red Cross is assisting affected tenants at this time, and the property owner is making arrangements to allow for access for necessities.
