Sting announce Black and White game supporting United Way

It's a sign that hockey season is right around the corner.

The Sarnia Sting have announced their annual Black and White game will take place at Progressive Auto Sales Arena on Saturday, August 31 in support of the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton.

The OHL club's annual intersquad game will feature a number of returning Sting players and team prospects vying for a roster spot.

Agency Associate Director Dave Brown said they're grateful for their relationship with the franchise.

"The Black and White game is just one example of how it's been so good for the United Way," said Brown. "Not only did we raise a record of $5,000 last year, but it's also some pre-campaign awareness since we'll be kicking off the campaign on Tuesday, September 17. When you think about it, the Sarnia Sting and the United Way have a lot in common including the fact that we both depend on our community for support and volunteerism."

Brown said money raised this year will help support 17 local agencies that provide 29 programs and services.

"We anticipate announcing this year's campaign goal in the next week or two," he said. "I'm really excited because at this point we're ahead of last year's pace thanks to some early donations and late donations from last year."

The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton's 2023 campaign was a big success, generating $1.472 million, or 105 per cent of the target.

Since its inception the Sting have helped raise an estimated $50,000 to help local United-Way programming.

Fans looking to take in the game are asked to make a donation at the gates in lieu of purchasing tickets.

A 50/50 draw will also be set up on the concourse as well as a raffle for a Sarnia Sting prize.

The Honey Pot will also be open for browsing and purchases.
