SCRCA issues water safety message with heavy rain forecast

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) issued a water safety bulletin late Thursday afternoon with severe thunderstorms in the forecast.

Heavy rain was expected Thursday afternoon and into the evening.

The SCRCA said with between 50 mm and 75 mm of rain possible, and higher amounts in localized areas, there's the risk of pooling on roads and flash flooding.

Due to the potential intensity of the storms, water levels are expected to rise rapidly and produce localized runoff.

The SCRCA said water levels are anticipated to be elevated from the rainfall with the potential for minor flooding into natural floodplain areas, parks and fields; major flooding is not anticipated at this time.

We're reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.

The SCRCA continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories should flood issues arise.

The bulletin will remain in effect until Friday, June 21, at 12 p.m. unless otherwise updated.
