Pizzafest sees long lineups during 11th annual event

Officials with the Town of Petrolia say this past weekend's Pizzafest was a "cheesy good time" as more than 7,300 slices were sold.

The 11th annual Petrolia Pizzafest was held on June 1 at Victoria Park.

Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities Julie Bullock estimates that more than 2,500 people attended the event.

At times, lineups stretched across the park as attendees waited for a slice from one of the seven pizza vendors.

The First Petrolia Scouts, Petrolia Lions Club, Petrolia and Area Kiwanis Club, and Lambton Central Petrolia Optimist Club also sold food, treats, and cold drinks. The Rotary Club of Petrolia was also at the park and sold 50/50 tickets.

“Events like this don’t happen without a very long list of volunteers,” said Mayor Brad Loosley. “We are so fortunate to have so many passionate people in our

community who participate and make the community signature events a huge success!”

Proceeds from Pizzafest will be presented to the Petrolia Community Fund during the June 24 town council meeting. The fund awards grants to support community initiatives within Petrolia.

It's estimated that the economic impact of hosting an event like this in Petrolia is around $123,000.

Update: During its June 24 meeting, the Petrolia Community Fund was presented with a cheque for $1,824 from Pizzafest.
