OPP, MTO take five trucks off road in safety initiative

Lambton OPP issued 19 highway traffic act violations, and took five vehicles deemed unsafe out of service, in a joint safety initiative with the MTO on Tuesday.

Police said they stopped 128 commercial vehicles along Highway 402 in Sarnia.

The OPP and MTO are reminding motorists that any truck using FAST lanes must be a U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism FAST-approved carrier and transporting qualifying goods for a FAST-approved importer.

The driver must have a valid FAST card.

Police said US-bound traffic entering Highway 402 from Indian Road, Christina Street, or Front Street, can remain in the right-hand lane to proceed to the bridge.

Vehicles attempting to cut through the lanes of stopped commercial vehicles cause significant traffic issues and risk being involved in a collision.
