The Lambton College Enactus team will be in Toronto competing at the Enactus Canada National Exposition this week.
Coordinator Matt Abercrombie said they took home the championship title at the TD Entrepreneurship Challenge at Regionals earlier this year, so they'll compete in that challenge again and the open division.
"In our main competition we are going to be presenting on two different projects that we're currently working on," said Abercrombie. "One of them is called Project One Circle, and that is a project where we have been working with Indigenous communities across Canada, specifically three First Nations in Saskatchewan. Food security has been one of their major concerns and issues, so we built three greenhouses and aquaponics facilities for each of those three First Nations."
It's not the first time Enactus Lambton has presented Project One Circle, which started in 2019.
The project was named the Scotiabank Climate Action Challenge National Champion in 2022.
Abercrombie said they'll also be showcasing Project One Future, which teaches essential entrepreneurship skills to youth.
"Our students go and deliver ten, one hour long sessions. Talking about things like work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Those students actually get to do little social justice projects of their own, much like our larger projects. They get to actually launch those in the community and work with community partners just like we do," he said.
Abercrombie said the competition is a great way for students to showcase the impact they've been making.
"Of course we would love to do well but, at the same time, the students have been working incredibly hard all year long," he said. "They're making an amazing impact. Not only locally with our One Future project, but across Canada with our One Circle project. I'm super proud of everything they've accomplished, no matter how the competition goes, but obviously we're excited to get there and compete and see how things go."
The exposition starts on Tuesday, May 14 and wraps up on Thursday, May 16.
