The Town of Petrolia is asking residents to help clean-up the downtown area and local parks as part of the fifth annual Provincial Day of Action on Litter.
A "clean-up day" will be held on Saturday, May 4.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the Kerr Building on Fletcher Street (behind the library) at 8:45 a.m. The beautification effort will be held until 12 p.m.
Attendees are asked to bring gloves, rakes, and brooms; garbage bags and garden waste bags will be provided.
The town said community groups and organizations often participate in the initiative. It's also an opportunity for high school students to earn their volunteer hours.
“It’s always a lot of fun, and the results speak for themselves – in about three hours Petrolia is cleaned up, litter is collected and we’re ready for another season of enjoying our parks and outdoor spaces,” said Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities Julie Bullock in a statement.
Volunteers do not need to pre-register.
The initiative will be held on an alternative day in the event of rain.
