Lambton Shores holds official plan public meeting

A public meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 30, to review proposed amendments, produced by the Municipality of Lambton Shores and NPG Solutions Inc., to update the official plan.

The public forum will begin at 7 p.m. as part of a regularly scheduled council meeting in municipal chambers at Port Franks Road in Thedford.

Open houses were previously held on April 17. The review process also included an online survey, which was open from late 2022 until early 2023.

Many of the proposed amendments are related to general housekeeping regarding policy revisions.

It's also proposed that policies be added for affordable housing and short-term rentals.

In terms of agriculture, it's proposed that a cannabis production policy be added to the official plan, and that amendments be made to allow agriculture-related and on-farm diversified use.

The purpose of an official plan is to outline the municipality's goals and objectives for the future growth. Policies in the document deal with various items including land use designations, infrastructure, transportation, environment, natural heritage, and agricultural resources.

The municipality's current official plan is from 2015.

Further details and updates about the review process can be found on Lambton Shores' website.
