Indian food, performances and culture will be on display at an event organized by Rayjon Share Care.
Culture and Cuisine: India is on Saturday, April 13 at the Centre Communitaire Francophone on Rapids Parkway runs 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
Spokesperson Manjit Singh said one of the main things will be the food, which is well loved in the community.
He also said there will be a bit of a twist.
"There are going to be stations, like an ice cream station for dessert, a pani puri station, so as soon as you walk in we direct you to those stations," Singh said.
He explained that Pani Puri is an appetizer which is a shell that gets filled with chickpeas, potatoes and spices.
There will be both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
Singh said they will also have some entertainment.
"We have local performers from all over India and then we have our team of Bhangra, it's a folk dance of Punjab and they're coming from Toronto, from GTA and they will be taking over the stage and teaching people the moves," he said.
Singh said it will be a great event.
"I really wanted to bring what happens in the GTA, what happens in New York, in Montreal among those Indian communities on special occasions where culture is a big thing, the food is a big thing," he said.
Rayjon Executive Director Heather Smith it's a chance to highlight different cultures within the community.
"To learn more about people that actually live and work in Sarnia-Lambton, so meet some people you haven't met before, learn something you haven't learned, try a new food," she said.
Tickets are available online for $100. Students are $50 and kids 12 and under are free.
Rayjon Share Care is also doing something new in terms of ticket sales.
They are offering a pay it forward option.
When purchasing tickets people can add $25 to help someone who would not be able to attend otherwise.
"We want everyone at the table, so those tickets will be distributed to community partners to make sure that someone who otherwise couldn't attend is going to be there as well," Smith said.
Proceeds from Culture & Cuisine will support some initiatives in education, health care and the empowerment of women.
