For the first time ever, the Lambton Lions Women's Basketball Team will play for national gold.

The Lambton Lions defeated the Géants de Saint-Jean 64-47 in semi-final action Thursday, to advance to the finals at the CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championships in Lloydminster, Alberta.

The Lions closed the game with a 15-2 run in the final five minutes, securing their spot in Saturday's Gold Medal Game in the process.

Sarnia's Brianna Pretty led the scoring for Lambton in the win with 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

Sarnia's Avery Bathe-Minard was named Player of the Game for the Lions. In 14 minutes off the bench, the fifth-year wing recorded 12 points and four rebounds.

The Lions will take on the Lakeland Rustlers in the National Championship on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. EST.

The Rustlers are coming off a 64-54 win over the Champlain-Saint Lambert Cavaliers in Thursday's other semi-final.

This is Lambton's first time competing on a national level after winning the provincial title on March 3.
