The Bluewater Health Foundation and the Sexual Assault Survivor Centre Sarnia-Lambton (SASCSL) are hosting a new event.
Sunday Funday will benefit Bluewater Health's Sexual Assault and Domestic Health Treatment Centre.
This year, the hospital's sexual assault and domestic violence treatment centre will be going through a $600,000 refresh and relocation within the hospital.
"It's an opportunity to not only enhance the space to make it more warm and welcoming and accessible for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence that come into our hospital," said Executive Director for Bluewater Health Foundation Kathy Alexander.
The Sexual Assault Survivors' Centre is also planning a move and rebrand this year, totaling $55,000.
Alexander said they understand how difficult it is to access the services at the hospital.
"It's really really important that we have a space that is designed to be welcoming and accessible and still provide that medical intervention that may be required," she said.
Alexander added a main focus for the event is also raising awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence.
"I really think it's important for people to have access and also understand what's available in our community and by coming together and sharing what we offer to the community hopefully we can help somebody in the future that might need some support," she said.
Sunday Fun Day will be held on March 3 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Widder Station in Thedford.
It will feature bonfires, live music, walking trails and refreshments.
The fundraising goal is $10,000, towards the renovation and the movement of the current space.
"We are excited to partner with the Foundation on this new event that will directly benefit survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking, said Executive Director of Sexual Assault Survivors' Centre Sarnia Lambton Chantel Butterfield. "It is absolutely vital that we continue to invest in these supports and services in Sarnia-Lambton."
Tickets are $60 and will include a meal and prize opportunities. They're available at the Bluewater Health Foundation office or online at revelree.ca.
A shuttle service will be available from Sarnia at an extra cost.
