Petrolia holds meeting for proposed housing development

A public information meeting will be held Monday evening to go over a proposed zoning bylaw amendment to allow for a housing development in Petrolia.

The proposed project is for 322 Eureka St., located between Catherine Street and Gables Avenue.

The application proposes changes to allow four townhouse buildings, with six units each, for a total of 24 dwellings. Under the current bylaw, the subject lands are zoned for four townhouses with a total of 16 dwelling units.

Despite the request to include additional units, the size of each proposed townhouse block would remain unchanged.

The proposed development has been classified as a medium-density housing option or "missing middle housing".

As stated in a report, planning staff support the proposed zoning bylaw amendment. However, a written submission provided to the clerk's department prior to the meeting outlined various questions about the developer, parking, and possible increased traffic volumes.

The public meeting will be held in council chambers at Victoria Hall on February 5, beginning at 6 p.m.
