Sarnia construction activity slowed down in 2023

Construction activity in Sarnia last year slowed down significantly from the year before.

In December, 25 permits were issued for a total of just over $23.3 million.  Over half of that, $16 million, was for a multi-residential apartment on Mackenzie Street North.

A permit for $2.6 million was also issued for a proposed addition to Lakeshore Community Church as well as interior renovations to the existing building.

A $1 million permit was given for tenant fit-up of retail space at Lambton Mall for the Crunch Fitness franchise.

That brings the total for the year to 459 permits worth over $126.4 million. That's down from 536 permits issued in 2022 valued at over $163.5 million.

Permits for single-family homes were also down last year. There was one permit issued in December for a yearly total of 36, compared to 72 the year before.
