Alleged bank robber arrested

A 29-year-old Sarnia man has been arrested in connection to a bank robbery on Monday.

Sarnia police said a suspect, who wore a dark hoodie and a mask that partially covered his face, went to the CIBC location on London Road and demanded cash. A weapon was not seen during this time.

A suspect was found shortly after the incident was reported.

He was charged with robbery, disguise with intent, and failure to comply with probation.

City police said the suspect was also wanted on outstanding warrants for the following:

- Fraud under $5,000

- Possession of a debit card obtained by crime

- Two counts of theft under $5,000

- Use property (debit card) with intent

- Failure to comply with probation

The accused was held in custody with a court date scheduled to take place in January 2024.

Sarnia police have issued a list of do's and don'ts one should follow in case of a robbery.

- Do not do anything to provoke the suspect.

- Call 911 as soon as it is safe to do so.

- Lock the door and close the business immediately after the suspect leaves.

- Do not let people walk over the area where the suspect travelled.

- Do not touch or clean up anything that was disturbed.

- Remain calm and try to remember what the suspect touched, whether they were wearing gloves, and which direction they fled.
