Nearly 60 building permits issued in October

Sarnia City Hall issued 56 building permits in October, worth just over $15.4 million.

That pushes the year-to-date total to over $85.5 million worth of new construction.

The monthly statistics include an $8.9 million permit to modify existing pet coke handling and loading structures at VIP Rail Inc. on Kenny Street, as well as storage silos with conveyors.

A $500,000 permit was issued for foundation work for a 59 unit, four-storey apartment building on Mackenzie Street North.

There were five permits issued for single-family dwellings in October, including three for $1 million each, bringing the year-to-date total for new homes to 26.

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
