Fatal fire reported on Euphemia Street

Sarnia Fire Rescue Services is reporting its second fatal fire in less than a week after crews were called to a blaze at an apartment building on Euphemia Street Tuesday night.

Three stations and 15 firefighters responded to a fire near Pat Stapleton Arena at around 8:29 p.m. Sarnia police and Lambton EMS also attended the scene.

Sarnia Fire Public Education Officer Mike Otis said firefighters forced their way into a third-floor apartment unit after they noticed heavy smoke around the door.

"Immediately upon entry, firefighters located an unresponsive occupant who was immediately removed and was taken to paramedics," read a media release.

Sadly, the lone occupant did not survive.

No details about the deceased have been released.

The flames were quickly extinguished as the fire was contained to a small area within the unit.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has been notified and will take over the investigation.

As of Wednesday afternoon, two provincial pickup trucks and one Sarnia Fire pickup truck were at the scene.

Tuesday's fatal fire comes shortly after a man in his 60s died in a fire at a home on Napier Street Saturday morning.
