United Way campaign at the halfway point

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign has reached the halfway mark.

The agency is now into week seven of the 14 week campaign.

Executive Director Dave Brown said so far they've raised $715,000 or 51 per cent of the $1.4 million target.

"I think we've developed some great momentum going into the second half (of the campaign)," said Brown. "Imperial Oil is starting to wind down their campaign and they look very strong, and NOVA is off to a great start. Some of our campaigns that have wrapped up are ahead of last year such as Reliance Home Comfort, TransAlta and Pembina."

Brown said donations have been steady.

"Donors seem to be pretty consistent now with last year," he said. "So, we don't have any feel yet on how that's going, we just hope the momentum will carry on."

The annual fundraising effort wraps up around Christmas. Money raised supports 17 local agencies providing over 31 programs and services, including Lambton Elderly Outreach, Sarnia-Lambton Rebound and River City Vineyard.
