The Sarnia Sting defeated the Niagara IceDogs 4-3 in a shootout Sunday at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
Sean Doherty got the Sting on the board with a late first period goal, the first of his OHL career.
"I mean it feels pretty good, but it also feels better to get the win," said Doherty in a post-game news conference.
The second period provided no scoring, and the Sting would add to their one goal lead midway through the third frame as Panthers prospect Sandis Vilmanis found the back of the net to extend the Sting's lead to 2-0.
The IceDogs responded with a shorthanded goal from Mathieu Paris, however the Sting would answer right back on the powerplay to regain their two goal lead.
Niagara's Michael Podolioukh found the back of the net at the 13:49 mark to get the IceDogs back within one.
With just 2:11 left on the clock, Andrew Vermeulen would score for the IceDogs to push the game into overtime.
Sarnia's Andrew LeBlanc scored the shootout winner against his former team, and Sting Goalie Karsen Chartier made 29 saves in net to be named first star.
"It was a full team performance that's for sure," said Chartier. "Congrats to Sean for his first OHL goal, definitely deserves that. Full team effort tonight, we all looked good especially from a game late Saturday night coming home. I think we did a good job capitalizing on getting a good night rest and showing up tonight and giving them a good game."
The Sting are home to Owen Sound on Friday. You can catch the game live on 103.9FM/1070AM CHOK.
