Santavy lifts to 10th place finish at Pan Am Games

Sarnia born weightlifter Noah Santavy competed on Monday at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

He placed 10th in the men's 102 kilogram category with a 150 kg snatch and ninth in the clean and jerk with 185 kg.

That was good for a combined 335 kg and a 10th place finish overall.

It was Santavy's first time competing in the Pan American Games.

He fell shy of his personal best score of 353 kg, which he achieved at the 2023 Senior Canadian National Championship.

Columbian Jhonatan Rivas Mosquera won Pan Am gold with a combined lift of 382 kg. Juan Carlos Zaldivar Median of Cuba was second at 375 kg, and Jhohan David Sanguino Matamoros of Venezuela was third with a 371 kg combined lift.

Santavy's brother Boady competed at the Pan Am Games in 2015 and 2019, his father Dalas in 2007, and his late grandfather Bob in 1967 and 1975.

Dalas was also a head coach for this year's Canadian squad.

Santavy will now turn his attention to preparing for the International Weightlifting Federation's Grand Prix.

The qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics is being held from December 4 to 14 in Doha, Qatar.
