OLG issues second quarter payments to local municipalities

Sarnia and Point Edward both cashed in more with the latest gaming revenue received from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

The OLG announced its second quarter payments on Wednesday, for the period of July 1 to September 30.

The City of Sarnia received $114,303 for hosting Gateway Casinos at Hiawatha Horse Park, and the Village of Point Edward collected $467,429 for hosting Starlight Casino.

To compare, first quarter payments issued to Sarnia in July totaled $90,351 while Point Edward received $375,814.

However, the first quarter was affected by a cyber security breach that forced Gateway locations to temporarily close in April.

Since Gateway Casinos opened in May 1999, Sarnia has received over $27.4 million.

Starlight Casino opened in Point Edward in April 2000 and has generated over $51.2 million in gaming revenue.

According to a statement from the OLG, payments are given to communities based on a formula, using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.
